Caring For Your Decorative Candles

Decorative handmade candles styled on a wooden shelf with soft warm lighting

Hand-poured candles aren't fragile, but they do appreciate a little care. A few simple habits will keep them looking — and burning — beautifully for years.

Where to keep them

Keep candles out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources (radiators, stovetops, sunny windowsills). Soy wax softens at relatively low temperatures, and prolonged sun exposure can fade colors.

If you display, don't burn

Many of our customers buy our sculptural candles purely as decor. That's perfectly fine — and honestly how we'd suggest using the most detailed pieces. Dust them gently with a soft, dry brush every few weeks.

If you do burn

  • Trim the wick to about ¼ inch before each burn.
  • Burn on a heat-safe surface, away from drafts and anything flammable.
  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • For pillar candles, the first burn matters: let the top layer melt fully across before extinguishing, so it doesn't tunnel.

Storage

If you're storing seasonal candles between holidays, wrap them loosely in tissue and keep them somewhere cool and dark. They'll be ready to come back out next year.
