How Our Candles Are Hand-Poured in Charlotte

Handmade soy candle being poured into a silicone mold inside the VRcandle studio

Every VRcandle is poured by hand in our small studio in Charlotte, North Carolina. We don't use machines, and we don't outsource production. Here's roughly how a candle goes from raw wax to your front door.

1. The wax

We use a soy-based wax blend that holds detail well — important for our sculptural and ornament designs — and burns cleanly. Each batch is melted to a precise temperature before pouring; too hot and the candle pulls away from the mold, too cool and it doesn't capture detail.

2. The mold

For sculptural candles we use silicone molds we've designed ourselves. The wick is set first, the wax is poured in stages to avoid air bubbles, and the candle cools slowly at room temperature.

3. Curing

After unmolding, candles cure for at least 48 hours. This step matters: a properly cured candle burns more evenly and holds its scent (when scented) much longer.

4. Hand-finishing

Every candle is trimmed, inspected, and — for our painted designs — finished by hand. Small variations between candles are normal. They're a sign each one was made by a person, not a machine.

5. Packaging

We pack candles in recycled tissue and a kraft box, with as little plastic as we can get away with. Fragile pieces get extra padding. Then they're off to you.
